Edwin Butler Bayliss (1874-1950) was a Black Country artist, famous for his realistic paintings of industrial sites in the area.
This week, alongside your Black Country research project, we would like you to complete 3 tasks based on the picture below.
Task 1: Recreate the painting using pencil crayon, wax crayon, felt tips or paint (remember to sketch first in pencil)
Task 2: Interpretation. What does this make you think it was like to live in the Black Country in the 1800s? What words best describe the scene in the picture?
Task 3: Using the picture as inspiration can you write a short story based on what you see? Where is the peson? Who is the person? what are they doing?
or
Write a descriptive text on the piece of art. What can you find out about the artist and what is this work showing?
Task 4: Create your own piece of art work in the style of Edwin Butler Bayliss of how the Black Country looks now.
