Christianity

Thursday 4th March

Can you remember what people are called who follow Christianity? What do Christians believe God created?

This week WALT: understand why Christians put a cross in an Easter garden.

Making an Easter Garden is a fun and easy way to find out more about what happened at the first Easter and why it is so important to Christians. Watch this film to hear the Easter story and to find out how to make an Easter Garden and why there is a cross in it

 https://request.org.uk/restart/2017/02/23/make-an-easter-garden/

When we are all back in school we can have a go at making our own Easter garden or you could even have a go at making one at home with a grown up.

Let me know how you get on.

Thursday 25th February

Can you remember what people are called who follow Christianity? What do Christians believe God created?

This terms new RE unit is Why do Christians put a cross in an Easter garden?

Palm Sunday

This is the Sunday before Easter Sunday.

It is the first day of Holy Week and celebrates Jesus's arrival in Jerusalem riding on a donkey. Crowds of people came out of the city to greet him, throwing down palm branches on the road. Listen to the song and join in if you can

Some churches give out small crosses made from palm leaves, as a reminder of Jesus's entrance into Jerusalem and his death on the cross. Some Christians keep these in their homes all year as a symbol of their faith.

Please watch the video link to find out how Christians celebrate Easter.

I have also set you a 2do on Purple Mash to draw an Easter egg. Do you know why we have them on Easter?

Thursday 4th February

Last week we made pictures of how 'God' created the world in six days. It was lovely to see some of your drawings. This week WALT: think about how Christians like to praise God and why they might like to do this. Can you think about, with an adult what does 'God' mean? Which people believe in God and believe he is the creator of everything?

In this short video clip Christians are singing praising songs to God in church. Can you say why do Christians do this and what are they saying?   https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p044h89p

You may have noticed that Christians thank God for the world and for life.

Christians believe that singing helps them communicate with God.

It enables them to express many emotions including thanks, joy and sorrow.

Many Churches have choirs who lead the congregation in song.

Below is an activity for you to print out and colour. Don't worry if you cannot print it, you could try drawing pictures of Christians praying and singing to God.

Thursday 28th January

Christianity is the world’s largest religion. People who follow Christianity are called Christians. Christians have one God, who they believe created the world in just six days and continues to watch over it. Christians believe that God is everywhere and sees and knows everything.

Could you discuss with an adult where is god found ? What might god be like?

Activity 1: Can you draw what you think God looks like? I have provided a worksheet but if you can't print it off you can draw on paper.

This week we will be thinking about how God created the world in just 6 days. If you didn't watch the video last week, have a look now and after see if you can draw what happened on each of the days. Again, I have provided a worksheet but don't worry if you cannot print it off. Maybe you could have a go drawing on paper or maybe you could draw what happened on your favourite day. My favourite day was when God made all the animals.

This half term our RE topic is Christianity and it is called Why is the word god special to Christians?

We will be talking about things we find interesting, puzzling or wonderful and thinking about our own experiences and feelings about the world. We will also be listening to stories, talking about the world, God , human beings and we will be able to say how and when Christians like to thank their creator. Finally we will be looking at what people do to mess up the world and what we need do to look after it.
