To support our learning about space in Year 5, on the 13th of October, we had the AMAZING opportunity to visit the National Space Centre in Leicester. The children were super excited as we set off on our fun adventure!
One of the highlights was our visit to the famous Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium. We lay back and set off on our journey through the solar system, visiting all of the planets, taking in amazing views of our galaxy and testing our knowledge in the interactive quiz!
After a lunch stop, we had an amazing ‘Rocket Science Show’ where a member of the centre showed us how rockets and science are all connected – we even had some fire, smoke and bangs!
Then, we had some free time to explore the interactive galleries. We stepped on board a replica of the International Space Station. Finally, we climbed the 144 steps up the famous rocket tower – where we looked down on actual rockets, saw rovers and even looked at an actual piece of the moon.
All the children were able to answer lots of questions and showed how much they had learnt so far. We had a great day and there were some very tired children on the coach ride back to school.
