  • Fire Safety Workshop

On Thursday 1st October, the firefighters from Oldbury Fire Station visited the children in Year 4 for a Fire Safety workshop. After parking their Fire Engine at the top of the school drive (in case they needed to make a quick getaway), the team came into 4B’s classroom, where all the children (and staff!) were educated on fire safety at home, including what to do if you discover a fire. The fire fighters asked for a volunteer (thank you Gianni) to demonstrate what to do if your clothes catch fire – STOP, DROP and ROLL. As we have so many canals, lakes, ponds and rivers nearby, the fire fighters then explored water safety and what to do if you fall in water. Importantly, with our school being on a busy road, the children also went through a series of multiple-choice questions to discover the importance of road safety.

The children had a fantastic hour with the West Midlands Fire Service and Firefighter Dan (no relation to Fireman Sam…) even invited two children from each class to explore the fire truck with Mr Billingham. As you can see from the photos, they absolutely loved it! To view all the photos from the day, please visit the ‘Enrichment Visits and Workshops’ section of the Year 4 Class Page on the school website.

Remember: if in doubt, just dial 999 and ask for the Fire Service!
