Initially we teach our children to read using the Letters and Sounds phonics scheme. Once our children can decode and read words we teach reading comprehension. We combine VIPERS and reciprocal reading so that our children have the skills to talk about books and develop key comprehension skills.
This supports the children to answer comprehension questions about Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explaination, Retrieval, Sequencing and Summarising - all of which are key comprehension skills we use when reading.

Reciprocal Reading
This is another strategy we use to develop Book Talk and reading skills. This is a group oracy activity.
